Sherrod Hill Water Meter Pit
Meter Pit Installation in Edinboro, PA.
This project is active.
Showman Excavating has completed the heavy site civil work and underground mechanical infrastructure for the Sherrod Hill Water Storage Tank Meter Pit project in the Borough of Edinboro. The initial scope required extensive earthwork, site preparation, and trenching to accommodate a new 12-inch ductile iron main line and blow-off hydrant assembly. Our team successfully set an 8'x8' precast reinforced concrete vault—manufactured with crystalline waterproofing additives and bitumastic exterior coating—and performed all necessary structural fill and backfilling to bring the vault flush to grade.
Inside the precast vault, our crews completed the installation of heavy piping and precision fluid controls, including a 12-inch to 8-inch mechanical joint reducer run, an 8-inch bi-directional magnetic flow meter, a sump pit with a discharge pump, and various copper sample ports and pressure gauges. All internal pipe networks were properly secured using adjustable galvanized cradle pipe supports anchored to the vault's floor slab. Additionally, we installed a blow-off hydrant assembly with concrete thrust blocks and completed the required waterline trench backfill and site restoration.
With all underground civil utilities, piping networks, and vault mechanicals fully installed and operational, the project is substantially complete. The final remaining phase of work consists of constructing the wood-framed structure directly over the precast vault. This building will feature 2x6 stud walls with R-19 fiberglass insulation, heavy-duty shingled roof trusses, vinyl siding, an insulated steel access door, and dedicated electrical services to house and protect the above-ground controls and displays.
